React to Changes of Direction

The main focus is for defenders to use fast feet to keep up with sprinting attackers.

  • Setup

    Form pairs with players of the same stature who standing facing one another. Pairs are positioned intermittently down the centre of the court. Pairs choose attacker (A) and defender (B).
  • Step 1

    On 'go!', attacker (A) sprints towards EITHER sideline. (B) must shadow with fast feet
  • Step 2

    After sprinting for about 1/4 of the width of the court, players recover by jogging back to the centre and pause to reset
  • Step 3

    Once all players are back in position, shout 'go!' again. (A) can run in the same direction, or the opposite, while (B) shadows again.
  • Step 4

    Repeat 3 times, then rotate roles.
  • Step 5

    Progression: (A) makes 5 x change of direction each turn, trying to throw the defender
