Intersecting Catches and Intercepts

Preliminary Moves & Passing, Defensive Moves.

Purpose

Players whose approach is at right angles to the ball's path must lunge and stretch to control difficult passes.

Setup
Group of (3), choose a worker (A) and 2 feeders (B & C) who stand 6m apart.
Step 1
(A) starts by running in a path intersecting (B & C).
Step 2
Starting at 50% intensity (B) passes a ball to (A) that is wide enough to make a lunge necessary to make a two-handed catch.

Passing speed is the key to making it challenging for (A)
Step 3
(A) passes to (C) to complete the movement, then quickly returns to their starting position
Step 4
Repeat, this time the other way, with (A) receiving from (C), passing to (B)

One side will be the 'weak' or non-preferred side, so work on quick transition from this side
Step 5
Repeat for 45-60 seconds and rotate
Step 6
Progress by gradually turning-up the heat on the passing, with (B & C) instead looking to pass to one another, and (A) crossing to intercept.

Again, (B & C) make-or-break the drill by controlling the difficulty of their pass

(A) should only be able to use one-hand to intercept at this stage.
