Lateral Leading Under Pressure

Preliminary Moves & Passing, Defensive Moves.
Purpose
Defenders quickly close-down and pressure the passer, while attackers pass around a close-marking defender.

  • Setup

    Split into 4's and mark out playing space for each, with (A & C) about 3m apart. Groups choose a defender (D), and 3 attackers (A /B / C) with (C) doing to work.
  • Step 1

    (B) has the ball. (D) assumes preferred defensive stance. (C) bounces around before a lateral lead to accept the pass.
    (C) can only run sideways from cone-to-cone, however can dodge to shake (D)
    (D) attempts to intercept - start at 50% intensity, then build.
    (C) concentrates on a balanced landing for next pass
  • Step 2

    (D) must pressure the passer (C), who tries to find (A).
    Consider using a bounce pass, or overhead pass
    (D) attempts to tip if they can read the pass
    (A) can only take 3 steps to receive
  • Step 3

    (A) throws a long shoulder pass back to (B) to complete the loop.
  • Step 4

    Repeat for 45-60 seconds, then rotate roles.
