The Interceptor

Purpose

This drill gives players the opportunity to intercept a longer pass.

Setup
Make a 5m square. (C & D) are the stations where players intercept. One player starts on (C), remaining players spread evenly amongst (A & B).
Step 1
The pattern for each player in lines (A & B) is:-

Pass diagonally (remain on cone)

Next turn, run the line

Third turn, intercept
Step 2
On 'go!' interceptor (B & C) leave their cones. (A) passes diagonally across the square to (B) who must land with a foot touching cone (D). (C) who is approaching from a 90 degree angle, attempts to intercept

For the first few turns, throw passes at 75% pace so interceptions are easier

After passing, (A) stays where they are - they become the next line runner.
Step 3
Return the ball to next line of players (B) after the play

If (C) misses the interception, (D) catches and throws-back to (B), before preparing for their turn as interceptor.
Step 4
Now we mirror the drill on the other side. (B) passes to (A) who is running towards (C). (D) intercepts.
Step 5
Return the ball to (A) to complete the loop.
Step 6
Progress by gradually making the passes faster so interceptions are more difficult

Keep it challenging but not impossible for interceptors - try to pass just within reach at a stretch - don't allow lobs or fakes.
