Defensive Third Throw-in: Short to [WD]

Focus
Throw-in Set Plays.
Skills
Preliminary Moves & Passing.
Purpose
When it's your throw-in in the defensive third, there are specific set plays you can run, depending on where the ball went out of court. As a rule, the [GK] will take throws closer to the baseline, while a designated player such as [WD or GA] can throw when closer to transverse line. This particular strategy is used when the ball goes out near the baseline on [WD]'s side of the court.

  • Setup

Choose two teams and setup as per the diagram.
  • Step 1

[WD] is given space to be the primary target, and performs a straight lead to receive a short pass from [GK]
If [WD] is double defended, they should move towards the corner to clear space for others to make back-up leads
  • Step 2

[GD] crosses into centre court near the transverse line to receive the second pass.
  • Step 3

[C] clears away from [GD]'s leading zone by moving to the opposite side of the court, and looks to receive the third pass.
