L-shaped Lead and Dodge

Purpose
Practises a straight lead before cutting laterally to receive, and passing to moving players.

  • Setup

    Set out 2 parallel lines of cones about 5m apart. Cones spacing along each line is about 3-4m. All players line up behind (A) with one player each on (B) and (C).

  • Step 1

    The pattern of play involves players from the line (2) of cones making an L-shaped lead and dodge, with line (1) passing straight ahead.

  • Step 2

    (B) makes a run down-court to (C), then cuts inside to receive a pass from (A), at (D)
    The cut must be sudden and the direction change disguised
    (A) runs to (B) after passing

  • Step 3

    (C) now sets off on a similar cutting run as performed by (B) - via (E) then receiving the pass at (F) from (D)
    (D) runs to (C) after passing

  • Step 4

    Once players reach the last cone on line (1), return to (A) with the ball.

  • Step 5

    Once players get the hang of it, start a second ball once the first ball reaches (F).
    Time leads and passes to maximise speed of delivery.
